All-Star Combo Training

Take your training to the next level! All-Star Combos

The All-Star Combo Training program is open to all high school students. Students can participate as part of a pre-formed combo or as an individual.

All-Star Combo Training includes:
• 3 training sessions with professional musicians
• a recording session (combos only)
• a showcase at Jazz Alley
• combos become certified and eligible to go out on gigs
• individuals become certified to be on the gig sub list

Upon completion of initial training session, combos are featured on our website and eligible to go out on gigs. Each combo member will receive a $30 stipend per gig. Most combos will average 4-5 gigs for the year.

Program Details

Location
Auditions and coaching sessions will take place at the MLK FAME Community Center at 3201 E Republican St in the Madison Valley neighborhood. Gigs can take place anywhere in the Seattle area.

Who can register
Open to students in grades 9-12 only. Pre-formed combos as well as individuals are welcome to register.

Requirements
All students must attend all 3 coaching sessions (10/18, 11/1, 12/13). In addition, combos certified for gigs must have one parent/guardian liaison who will be available by cell phone on gig days.

How to sign up
Submit the registration form at the link above (pre-formed combos will submit one registration form). Combos must have one parent/guardian who will act as a gig liaison between JazzED staff and the combo.

Audition Date
Auditions for pre-formed combos will take place Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the MLK FAME Community Center.

Audition Criteria
Pre-formed combos will prepare a list of 7 songs ready for performance. The Education Director will select 3-4 songs of the 7 options provided to be played at the audition. Successful combos will show excellence in intonation, dynamics, groove, improvisation, and enthusiasm. They will also exhibit versatility in musical selection, arrangement and soloing, and professionalism in attire, conduct and communication.

In addition combos should come prepared with a written proposal for the combo’s regular rehearsal schedule and a strategy for designing musical arrangements, set design and artistic vision. The audition will end with an brief interview.

Tuition
Pre-formed combos: $300 fee per student (financial aid and flexible payment plans available).

Individuals: $225 fee per student (financial aid and flexible payment plans available).

Financial Aid
